French cloud provider Scaleway will build an AI supercomputer in Sweden, its first facility outside France. Powered by AMD Instinct MI355X chips, the system will be Europe’s first commercial AI supercomputer to use AMD technology. The chips are positioned as a direct competitor to Nvidia’s Blackwell line. Startups and businesses across Europe will be able to access the facility.

Scaleway, a subsidiary of Iliad Group, chose Sweden for its low-carbon electricity and growing AI sector. The project builds on a partnership with Swedish telecom operator Tele2.

The announcement signals AMD’s expanding presence in Europe’s AI infrastructure market. Its open-source ROCm software offers an alternative to Nvidia’s proprietary CUDA platform.
