Aeluma shares rose 7.4% in premarket trading following a strategic agreement with Sumitomo Chemical Advanced Technologies (SCAT). This partnership aims to accelerate the development and production of photonics wafers for the AI datacom market.

The collaboration leverages SCAT’s existing manufacturing facility in Phoenix, Arizona. Both companies established a path for future capacity expansion at the site.

Aeluma’s technology utilizes readily available substrates to replace traditional Indium Phosphide (InP). This shift addresses current industry supply shortages for high-performance photodetectors and lasers.

The agreement strengthens a multi-year relationship between the two firms. It positions Aeluma to resolve a critical supply chain bottleneck within the AI sector.
