Akzo Nobel N.V. has entered into binding agreements to sell its Decorative Paints business in seven Southeast Asian countries to Nippon Paint for approximately $1.35 billion (€1.20 billion). The price represents 21 times the business’s expected 2025 EBITDA. AkzoNobel expects net cash proceeds of around $1 billion (€0.9 billion) after taxes and other considerations.
The divestment concludes AkzoNobel’s review of its decorative paints portfolio in Asia and supports its strategy to rebalance its portfolio toward areas where it holds leadership positions. After the sale, the company plans to focus on completing its proposed merger with US coatings company Axalta.
The sale of the Indonesian business is expected to close in late 2026. The remaining transactions are expected to close in mid-2027, subject to regulatory approvals.
