Toyota plans to equip 10 million new vehicles a year with its Arene software platform by 2030. The rollout will cover approximately 50 models and supports the company’s goal of making all its vehicles software-defined, allowing performance and feature updates over the air.

The move comes as automakers increasingly focus on software as a source of vehicle functionality and revenue. Software-defined vehicles can receive new safety, autonomous driving and entertainment features after they are sold. Toyota first launched Arene in its 2025 RAV4 sport utility vehicle.

Chief Technology Officer Hiroki Nakajima said Toyota also aims to offer Arene to its alliance partners by 2035. The strategy is part of a broader effort to increase profits from post-sale services and subscriptions.
