Toyota will invest nearly $8 billion more in its battery plant in Liberty, North Carolina, bringing its total investment there to approximately $13.9 billion.
The expansion is expected to create around 3,000 jobs, bringing planned employment at the facility to more than 5,000.
The funding will support eight new production lines for batteries for battery electric vehicles (BEVs) and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs). These will be added to previously announced lines for hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs).
Production is planned to expand in phases through 2030. The facility is set to become Toyotaβs primary hub for lithium-ion battery production in North America.
