Tesla will begin offering public rides in its new Cybercab in Austin, Texas, as early as next week. This move transitions the company’s robotaxi service from employee-only testing to public road deployment.

The Cybercab is a two-seat vehicle designed specifically for autonomous ride-hailing without a steering wheel or pedals. While competitors like Waymo use retrofitted cars, Tesla’s vehicle is built from the ground up for driverless operation.

New footage shows potential manual control mechanisms, including on-screen controls and remote operation for complex situations. This launch marks the first time a purpose-built driverless vehicle will serve the public at scale.
