Reuters reported that Tencent, ByteDance and Alibaba have ordered more than 3 million of Nvidia’s new RTX PRO 5500 graphics cards. The orders are valued at more than $35 billion.

The companies are seeking powerful chips that comply with U.S. restrictions on advanced semiconductor trade with China. Reported demand far exceeds Nvidia’s planned production, and the company has said it cannot guarantee it will fill the orders.

The RTX PRO 5500 is a workstation chip, less powerful than Nvidia’s top-tier data-center processors. It is among the most powerful chips available to Chinese firms under current U.S. export controls.
