Samsung SDI said it secured more than 60 GWh of new energy storage system (ESS) orders this year, primarily from U.S. utility customers. The backlog is sufficient to keep its U.S. and Ulsan production facilities operating at full capacity through 2028. The surge in ESS demand is largely driven by the expansion of AI data centers.

The company announced the orders alongside its third-quarter earnings. It swung to an operating profit of 407.8 billion won, reversing a loss from the previous year.

Samsung SDI also secured its first European project to supply lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries for electric vehicles. The company recently began mass production of LFP cells at its U.S. plant.
