SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won said the company would expedite construction of a new SK Hynix semiconductor cluster in Gwangju to meet soaring global chip demand. During a visit to the proposed site at Gwangju Air Base, he said construction would begin as soon as possible, potentially before all utility infrastructure is complete.

A specific start date has not been set. The push reflects urgency driven by growth in the AI sector.

The planned cluster will be roughly two-thirds the size of SK’s Yongin complex. It is part of a broader government and industry initiative, with mass production targeted for 2030.
